Closed Rhinoplasty: Subtle Refinement Through Internal Access
Closed rhinoplasty (endonasal) is suited for patients requiring moderate aesthetic refinement — such as a small dorsal hump or tip refinement — without complex reconstruction.
Through incisions hidden inside the nostrils, the surgeon reshapes the nasal bones and cartilage without opening the columella. This approach reduces external swelling and eliminates visible scars.
Ideal candidates have elastic skin, mild deviations, and realistic goals. The surgeon uses micro-rasps or controlled osteotomies to smooth the nasal bridge and refine the tip with limited suture techniques.
Because graft placement is more challenging with the closed method, it is best reserved for straightforward cases. For patients with functional issues, trauma, or major asymmetry, the open approach provides more control.
Post-op swelling is minimal around the columella, and recovery is usually faster.
Dr Yalon Dolev selects the approach — closed or open — based on nasal anatomy, airway evaluation, and desired outcome.
